2012: The Round Barn Theatre at Amish Acres
Celebrating Sixteen Years of Repertory Theatre
Bringing you the Best of Broadway's Golden Age of Musical Theatre, The Round Barn Theatre at Amish Acres is created from a 1911 round barn that was dismantled and resurrected at the historic farmstead to become a resident repertory professional theatre.
Over one hundred Broadway musicals have been produced over the last 25 years. The professional acting company is assembled from auditions across the country and is housed on the farm. The Round Barn Theatre is a full performing arts venue with its own scenic and costume shop, rehearsal space. It employs a full time technical staff including artistic director, stage manager, sound and set designers.
The National Home of Plain and Fancy
An Amish Acres tradition, Plain and Fancy, now in its 26th season, fills the proscenium Joseph Stein Stage each April through October. This gentle but spirited musical comedy brought the first national attention to the quaint customs, stern morals and picturesque dress of the Amish. Over 3,000 shows have been performed, and over 300,000 patrons have marveled at Amish Acres nationally recruited cast, English Strand theatre lighting, full-scale, authentic sets and costumes over the last decade.
"Without a doubt, Amish Acres Round
Barn Theatre is becoming the best regional theatre in the Midwest. As
a matter of fact, I've enjoyed some of
your past performances better than some Broadway shows that I've seen."

The Joseph Stein Stage
The Round Barn Theatre's stage is dedicated to Joseph Stein, who co-wrote the book for Plain and Fancy, his first work for the musical theatre. This light hearted look at the differences between the Amish of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and a young couple from New York City, was the first new musical to hit Broadway in 1955. It ran for 462 performances. Now after twenty-four years, Amish Acres Round Barn Theatre's perennial production has surpassed 3,600 performances and played before over a 355,000 patrons. This stage has become the national home of Plain and Fancy.
Through the Joseph Stein Memorial Fund, children's season subscriptions are free with the purchase of one or more adult subscriptions. A memorial fund has been created in honor of Joseph Stein for whom The Round Barn Theatre's stage is named. Stein is the author of Plain and Fancy, Fiddler on the Roof, Zorba and many other Broadway musicals. He has been the theatre's inspiration and mentor for over twenty years.
